Don't Judge A Book By Its Cover

Have you ever been in a bookstore or library trying to find a good book to read, and you read the book jacket to see what the book is about? I am sure many of you have. I was doing that the other day at my local library as I was searching for a good read to bring home. I chose one particular book off the shelf and read the summary of the book, but it was way more than a synopsis. The description basically gave the whole story away! What is the point of me reading it now? I basically know everything that is going to happen!

How about when you choose a book because the description on the jacket makes it sound like a really interesting, captivating story? However, you just can’t get into it because it is actually a snoozer. Boring. Maybe you keep trying and tell yourself, “Let me just get to chapter---” so you can really give the book a chance. When you get to that spot, though, it's still boring as heck. That was time you will never get back.

So, I guess we really can’t judge a book by its cover, because sometimes that information can be very deceiving. Maybe next time you find a title that interests you, read some reviews first. Or take a chance. Or maybe don’t read anything beforehand at all. Then you won't be disappointed!

Where Is The B?????

Supposedly.

SU-PPOS-ED-LY

See that word? Do you see the letter B in that word? No? Oh! That’s because THERE ISN’T!!

So why do people say “supposeBly?” Actually, I think it’s more like “supposeUBLY.” Who knows. It’s dumb. I’m sorry, but it is. There is absolutely NO excuse for putting a B in that word…BECAUSE THERE ISN’T ONE!

I’m not being mean; I promise. That’s not my intention. My intention is to bring it to everyone’s attention that the B does not exist in the word SUPPOSEDLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, B smart, people, and pronounce it correctly!!

Don’t even get me started on “liberry.”

I Shouldn't Leave The House

I seem to often get into predicaments when I leave my house. Yesterday was no exception.

I was leaving Walmart, and I could see a car coming in my peripheral vision, so I turned my head to look. I didn’t want to get hit while I was still walking, after all. I didn’t get hit by the car, but I did walk into a pole that I didn’t see. Because I wasn’t looking where I was going. Love that for me.

Then, after my next stop, I made it back to my car, but I did not make it to the seat. Because I missed the seat and sat on the little part of the car next to the seat. That was fun. I wonder how many people saw that mishap.

So nope, you literally cannot take me anywhere. Most of my mishaps somehow seem to involve me walking into things or just falling in general. You’d think I would eventually get it together. I'm almost afraid to ask, “What’s next?”

Let's Talk About Facebook

I know social media can be frustrating (among other things), but I believe it can be a positive experience if used correctly. I think it’s great for businesses, authors, bloggers, realtors, etc., but also for people looking to connect with friends and family they don’t see often. I use a few different platforms, but today I am going to talk about Facebook.

I’ve heard this a lot through the years: “Ugh, Facebook sucks” or “I hate Facebook.” Yeah, it can be frustrating for sure. However… it is a good platform to use.

Facebook has been an amazing source for me to keep in touch with friends and family and reconnect with those I went to school with or used to work with. I love watching my friends' and family members' children grow up—school pictures, sports pictures, events, etc. I love that I am still close with many of my former classmates from school.

Facebook is also great for finding local events or creating your own. A group I follow called 315 Foodies had an event this past weekend that my husband and I attended with friends of ours. Several people I went to school with were there, and it was great to reconnect in person.

I’m also in many groups where I can promote my published books and my publishing business, Get It Write Publishing. In fact, I got my very first editing job through Facebook. I have a FB page for my books/blogs (click here to visit) and my publishing business (click here). FB is a great place for authors to set up a page and promote their books.

So, you see? If used properly, Facebook can really be a good social media platform.

You can follow me on other social media platforms as well...

Monday Funday

I don’t sleep much as it is, having developed insomnia in the last month, plus taking care of elderly dogs and one who has cancer. Last night took the cake. I actually fell asleep right away when I went to bed, which is unusual, but I woke up at three in the morning to someone shouting outside. It was a male, and he was yelling, but it didn’t look like he was on the phone, and there was nobody else with him.

I laid down and tried to fall back asleep, and soon it was quiet. Just as I started falling back asleep, I heard yelling again, this time from him and a female. They yelled at each other at the top of their lungs for about 10 minutes, along with him grabbing her and chasing her when she pulled out of his grasp, and it was just really ridiculous. Who does this at three in the morning? And who does it outside? If you’re going to fight, do it in the privacy of your own home.

Anyway, the police showed up at one point, but of course the couple had gone inside by then. I tried to get back to sleep, but as I lay there, I heard the cats running around and playing with each other, and it was really loud. Given that I had very little sleep, I started laughing. And then I couldn’t stop. I think at that point I was just overtired. Or close to losing my marbles.

Later, I took the dogs for a walk, and while walking, I felt something at the bottom of my leg inside my pants. I shook my foot a little and out came a pair of my UNDERWEAR!!!!!

Yep. Must’ve gotten stuck in there during the wash and just happened to come out while I was IN PUBLIC!! See my Instagram or YouTube for the telling (not showing).

All in all, it’s been quite the MONDAY!! The good that came from today? I made boiled peas and potatoes and did not burn them!! WIN!!

Skip It!!!

You know when you just want to view a recipe online and you click on the link (from Pinterest or Facebook or whatever) and it takes you to a website or blog and you have to read several pages before actually getting the recipe? It drives me crazy. Like, I don't want your life story; I just want the recipe! Why can't anyone give just a brief description and then post the recipe?

Same with YouTube videos on “how-to’s.” I don't need your life story or a huge intro. Just tell me HOW! You would think that with the modern, fast-paced world and people being busy a lot, they would make it convenient for others. Plus, who would be interested in someone’s life story when looking for a recipe?! They can read or watch that in their biography section. You know what I mean?

So, there I was, the other day, searching on Pinterest for a particular recipe, and once it redirected me to the website, I accidentally clicked on a link included in their “introduction”... Two hours later, I’ve subscribed to twenty cooking blogs, and I’m making a casserole dish that ends up burning in the oven when I sit back down to read more and forget to set the timer. Oops!

...I’ll have to try the non-bake option next time.

What do you guys think? Are you sick of long introductions and irrelevant content, or does that interest you? Me, either. Let me go check my email now to see if anyone’s posted any other interesting recipes...

Working From Home Confession #6: Sometimes I ...

 ...spin in my chair!!

C’mon, who doesn’t? I will bet anyone who has ever sat in a chair with wheels has spun around in it—at least once. Even executives. How can you not? It’s fun. It’s also somewhat calming. Just spin around slowly, and you’ll see.

Sometimes, while I’m thinking, I will slowly spin in my chair. Other times, I get restless and move the chair away from the wall and spin around fast and/or wheel myself around (which isn’t difficult where my desk is because the floor slants and it’s wood!!).

So yeah…sometimes I spin in my chair.

Do you have a chair with wheels? Have you ever spun in one?
