I can't believe it's
already September! (Here, though, it feels like summer...I think we hit 90 deg today!!) July and August seemed to go by so quickly. The summer is
often a busy time for people, filled with outdoor activities, events, and
vacations (especially those with a very limited summer like here in Upstate New
York!).
I can already see the
leaves slowly starting to change colors...little hints of fall here and there.
The nights are getting cooler and darker earlier. Kids are already back to
school or getting ready to go back. People are beginning to look forward to
making warm soups again for dinner.
Society is always in
such a huge hurry to get to the next season or holiday (such as stores selling
pumpkin spice coffee at the end of the summer... but I did cheat and had my
first on August 30th! I couldn't resist...). Halloween candy is already on the
front shelves, and costumes are being displayed. Thanksgiving Day décor usually
comes out in mid-October. Christmas toy ads start showing up early
November.
What are we in such a
hurry for? I do know that a lot of it is marketing. Businesses want people to
start looking for gifts to buy for the next holiday. It's understandable. Some
of it, though, is just a reflection of our fast-paced society. We're always
looking ahead to the future to plan the next event, and we often neglect the
present. So even if summer isn't your favorite season, spend some quiet time
reflecting on what you are grateful for at this moment. How can you make the
most of the time you have now?
Are you ready for
fall, or are you still hanging onto summer? I'm definitely a fall girl. Which season do you like better?
