It’s Monday, and it’s a very
tough Monday. “Aren’t most Mondays tough?” you may be asking. “Sure, because
you have to get up early for work and start a new week, blah-blah,” I may reply
to you. Or….THIS particular Monday is exceptionally tough because I just had a
five-day vacation at the lake, and I am EXHAUSTED. And I want to be back at the
lake. Plain and simple.
Don’t get me wrong; I love
what I do (editor/owner of Get It Write Publishing Company and a published author), but I love lake life, and it’s hard to come back home (especially where
I live).
Ahh, but vacation. My husband
and I went to Lake George, as we do every year, to celebrate our anniversary
(this year it’s our 18-year anniversary!). It’s tradition. We get a hotel with
a room by the lake (usually Surfside on the Lake, but we didn’t book in time, so we stayed
elsewhere), we drink margaritas and eat chips, and we swim and walk. It’s
relaxing, it’s fun, and it’s the lake life I want.
The first day was rough because we arrived before noon and the hotel wouldn’t let us check in yet. We were able to park, and we did see that our room was being cleaned, so we went to the village (same strip as our hotel) and had lunch, then walked around. Oh, yes, and don't forget the yummy Rum Runner I had with lunch. What's a Rum Runner? An amazing alcoholic drink for summer!! See my recent blog post titled Summer Drinks to find out what is in a Rum Runner.
I bought a purse from Handbag Heaven, of course (tradition!!), and we got ice cream.
By 1:30 p.m., we were exhausted and wanted to get settled in our hotel room and have the rest of the afternoon to bake on our private beach or in the pool (with margaritas, of course). Alas, this particular hotel wouldn’t let us check in yet. “But,” I argued, “it was being cleaned before noon. Surely it’s DONE already.” “Yes,” the front desk replied. “But the manager has to approve the rooms before check-in.” Fair enough. Had the manager, however, really and truly inspected the room, she/he would have noticed the GIANT cobweb wrapped up, around, and through the lamp on my side of the bed. Thank goodness I didn’t see a spider!!
By 2:20 p.m., I had had it. We walked up to the hotel, and I walked in, no nonsense. “We’re checking in!” I proclaimed. Without argument, we were checked in.
The private beach at our hotel was small and basically a ground with some sand sprinkled over it (not like REAL beaches), but it was cozy. We made new friends by the pool and
bragged about our baby granddaughter to people with kids.
On Thursday, we boarded the
Lac DU Saint Sacrament for the fireworks show on the lake. Margaritas and
finger foods plus an excellent fireworks show was just what we needed!
On Friday eve, we met up with
my best friend and her husband. After drinks and dinner and walking around, I
thought I’d amuse everyone by dancing (down the sidewalk through town) to the
nearby park band singing/playing a Bon Jovi song. That dance can be viewed on
YouTube (please like and subscribe!!). Hey, if you can’t have a little fun…

I’m glad you had such a fun vacation and I am so happy we got to share an evening together. PS. Your dance is my favorite thing ever 😂❤️💃
ReplyDeleteI totally get it about the exhaustion and sometimes frustrations during vacations. This is all normal stuff (including the disappointment of going back to work), so try not to let it get you down. I'm glad you had a good time. Happy anniversary!! 💕
