Let's Talk Flowers

Spring is in full bloom in Upstate NY (frost be damned!). I love spring because of the flowers and the smell of…well, spring! You know, not just flowers but rain and warmer air. It’s just the spring smell.

My favorite flowers are roses. However, I also love lilacs and tulips. Lilacs smell AMAZING, and tulips make me happy. They just do! When I see them, I smile.

A longgggggggggggg time ago (I was in my late teens, I think), I had a beautiful rose bush that grew very tall with many roses. I was so proud of that. But I had to move and leave it behind. Since then, I have not been able to keep a rose bush alive. Sigh.

My in-laws and grandma have lilac trees at their homes, so thankfully, I can take some of theirs and put them in a vase at my house. I don’t want to plant a tree here since we would like to move soon.

And tulips? Well, I keep missing the dang time to plant them, apparently.

So! I live vicariously through those who can keep these gorgeous flowers alive!!

I do have one flower plant and one that sometimes flowers and something that looks like a mini palm tree, and I keep them nice and healthy!!

What are your favorite flowers? Do you grow them? I’d love to hear any tips you may have for keeping roses alive!

  1. Those are so pretty!! Lilac scents always reminds me of spring 🌼 My parents like gardening and have some really pretty rose bushes! I'd imagine it's tough where we live to take care of plants because of the harsh winters/late frost and not a ton of sunlight. My favorite flowers are peonies (minus the ants! 😜)

  2. You’re “tree” is a Yucca Tree.
I love the smell of lilacs too and wish they bloomed longer. My house I’m always seems to be over run with plants, but I like it that way. One of my favorite flowers are lilies. I have a ton of them planted.

    1. I gave up on my rose bushes. They start out beautifully in the spring, but soon succumb to whatever spider mites or other diseases, no matter what I used to protect them. I also live lilacs, however, they became sick from some sort of grub worm. It must from Southern critters or fungus or something.

  3. My three favorite flowers are lilacs, Lily of the Valley and tulips. We have a huge lilac bush that we planted when we moved here 13 years ago. It is just starting to bloom and it smells sooo good!
