Last week, I was feeling excited about my upcoming four-day weekend. My husband and I had plans to work on the house a little (it’s old and a fixer-upper), but I also had plans to write, read, and relax. No editing. No publishing. No book formatting No checking emails. Nada. Zip. ZERO WORK.
Friday arrived, and I had an amazing day. I had a few itches to check emails (and yes, I did check twice), but for the most part, I kept my phone aside and didn’t even open my laptop.
I did a little writing (my next book and some blog posts) on Saturday and Sunday, but by Sunday, I really wanted to get back to my editing jobs. (Confession: I DID do a little bit of editing Sunday!)
I love what I do. You may already know that I’m an editor and the owner and operator of Get It Write Publishing. Currently, I have a few books in the works for publishing, and I also have some editing jobs. So taking a four-day weekend and not touching my laptop is huge. My husband went on a road trip to Arizona in February, but I brought my iPad and worked here and there during the week we were gone. This weekend was not for work, but I did some anyway.
And that’s okay.
Someone recently said, “No one is ever going to completely love their job.” I beg to differ. I completely love what I do. I transitioned my editing business into a publishing business because of how much I love helping writers become published authors. Sure, I get frustrated (KDP and IngramSpark will bring on frustration in the calmest person), and sometimes I’m too hard on myself if I make a mistake (who doesn’t make mistakes?), but I love my job; I love what I do, and I do what I love. I’m grateful for that, and I'm thankful my husband supports me.
